Little House, Swellendam, 2024
A friend of mine lives in a conservation area in Swellendam. She wanted to add a Pilgrims Rest type cottage in her garden. ELA prepared the Municipal drawings from her sketches with a few minor adjustments. The Contractor was Pat Jonk and between the two of them they finalised the details as they built the cottage. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the cottage featured a quaint thatched roof, whitewashed walls, and a cozy porch adorned with blooming flowers.
Each element, from the handcrafted shutters to the rustic wooden door, reflected the meticulous care and craftsmanship that had gone into its creation. As the seasons changed, the cottage seemed to adapt, always looking like it belonged, whether nestled in the fresh greenery of spring or blanketed by the golden hues of autumn. It became a beloved spot for afternoon teas, family gatherings, and moments of quiet reflection. The cottage wasn't just a building; it was a testament to the beauty of collaboration and the magic that can happen when dreams are nurtured into reality.
